After the CAT radio-controlled construction machinery in 1:24° and 1:35° scales, a new scale is available at the end of this aisle, the 1:64°. The 1:64° is the scale of the small cars of our childhood, the Hot Wheel, Majorette, Norev, … but it is also the S or H1 scale in the field of electric trains.
To start the presentation, you will find in the shelves the vehicles of this CAT 1:64 range in a small transparent case of 20x14x8 cm.
This mining truck is bigger than a car from our childhood, but the vehicle at scale 1 is huge.
Next to Flash McQueen Carrera GO at scale 1/43, the CAT 770 is barely bigger. We almost want to put it on a GO circuit.
Batteries and recharging
The remote control is powered by 2 LR03 (AAA) batteries and a screwdriver will be needed to open the battery compartment.
On the vehicle side, it is equipped with a 3.7V – 55mAh Lipo battery, which you can recharge from underneath the vehicle by removing the small protective cap from the port. Used to the charging ports of RC vehicles (drones, helicopters, cars) in micro USB, I was surprised but pleasantly surprised to discover a USB-C port.
Driving
The remote control controls are not proportional, which means that you cannot control the speed, for that you would have to give small jolts. Less practical but quite feasible with a little practice. Let’s go for the first turns of the wheels. After a few centimeters traveled, a small adjustment is necessary on the steering so that the truck moves in a straight line. For this a small trim slider is available under the vehicle.
Let’s go, for a real ride, I am surprised by the speed of the truck, it goes relatively fast, it is not restricted. A truck of this size (scale 1) moves slowly but is very powerful in order to move its heavy load. On the one hand, I would have liked it to move slowly but I also like its speed.
It reacts very well to the controls and the steering remains rather precise. I very quickly took control of the truck and managed to slip between the legs of the chairs without problems. Its big wheels allow it to pass without any problem over imperfections in the ground such as tile joints, door sill bars. Not all vehicles can do that.
Now it’s time to load this machine. Flash McQueen in Carrera GO looks at me from his shelf and seems to be the same size so I pick him up and put him in the dumpster. He fits in just right! Let’s go for a spin. Right away the CAT has more trouble moving forward, it’s less lively to move Flash’s 34g. We really have the feeling of driving a loaded machine.
